Change Your Discord Nickname for One Server

Per-server identity · No Nitro required

A server nickname is free for all Discord users. Use it to show the character name or nickname guildmates recognize inside one specific server.

  1. 1Open the server
  2. 2Open your profile
  3. 3Edit per-server profile
  4. 4Enter nickname
  5. 5Save

Desktop or Browser

  1. Open The True Republic Discord server.
  2. In the member list on the right, right-click your own username. You can also right-click your avatar or name on one of your messages.
  3. Select Edit per-server profile.
  4. Enter the nickname you want in the server nickname field.
  5. Press Save to apply it.

Mobile

  1. Open the server in the Discord mobile app.
  2. Tap the server name at the top and choose Edit Per-server Profile. You can also tap your own avatar in a message or the member list.
  3. Change the server nickname field.
  4. Tap Save in the top-right to confirm.

Fastest method: /nick

In any text channel where you can use commands, type:

/nick Your New Nickname

Choose the nickname option Discord displays, enter the new name, and send the command. It changes only your nickname in the current server.

If the option is missing

Your role needs the Change Nickname permission. When the server denies that permission, the profile option may be unavailable and the /nick command will fail.

Ask a server officer or administrator to update your nickname or check your role permissions.

What other members can see

  • Your server nickname takes priority over your global display name inside that server.
  • People can mention you using either your nickname or username.
  • Even with a nickname, anyone can still open your profile and see your Discord username.
  • Server nicknames are free. Server-specific avatars, banners, themes, and About Me customization can require Discord Nitro.

For guild clarity, use the character name or familiar nickname that other members should use when inviting you in-game.
